Unboxing ‘Beyond Caring’ (Errata Editions)

In Beyond Caring, Paul Graham chronicles the breakdown in the British Social Welfare system during the heyday of Thatcherism in the early- and mid-1980s. This Errata Editions version (Books on Books #9) reproduces every page in the original book, alongside essays by David Chandler and Jeffrey Ladd, and it’s a great way to experience the work, in book form, now that original versions are fetching $350 dollars or more…

Polacon!

The 2017 Polacon took place Friday, September 29-Sunday October 1, 2017. Sadly, I wasn’t able to take part in much of it, but I did enjoy a guided photowalk around Downtown Denton, TX, and a brunch after with a regular from the Dallas Photo Walk group. Next year, if I can keep it in my head, maybe I’ll get to more of the events next year. Continue reading “Polacon!”

Time

Time is precious: God granted us just so long here; only He knows how long we have. And He told us

وَالْعَصْرِ

By time

إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ لَفِي خُسْرٍ

All humanity is in loss

إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ

Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience.

Delta Def Jam: Samie, Daniyal, and the Traxxas Slash at 6400

Samie got himself a Traxxas Slash a month or so ago, and Daniyal came by (with his mother, sisters, and aunt (my sisters in law and neices)) to check it out… Fun times, for sure, especially during the DeltaDefJam! Continue reading “Delta Def Jam: Samie, Daniyal, and the Traxxas Slash at 6400”

Delta Def Jam: at work with 3200, at 6400

With September came the Delta Def Jam… like the FP4Party, TMAX Party, and Neopantastic! before it, it’s a community celebration of all things Ilford Delta. I’m not a big fan of Ilford Delta 100 or 400 (I vastly prefer FP4 and HP5+), so I decided to go with 3200,

I started strong, but didn’t finish the roll until the 19th, blowing any hope of really participating completely. Oh well. Continue reading “Delta Def Jam: at work with 3200, at 6400”

I seek refuge in Allah!

In Surah Al Jathiyah, Allah azza wa jall says

Have you seen him who takes his own lust (vain desires) as his ilah (god), and Allah knowing (him as such), left him astray, and sealed his hearing and his heart, and put a cover on his sight. Who then will guide him after Allah? Will you not then remember?

Astaghfirullah. Astaghfirullah. Oh Allah forgive me! There is no god but Allah and I am truly among the wrongdoers. Oh, Turner of Hearts, turn and keep my heart fixed firmly on Your beautiful religion, Ameen.

Unboxing William Kline’s ‘New York’

William Kline’s Life is Good and Good For You in New York Trance Witness Revels is one of those low print run, long out of print, wildly expensive, classic photobooks that pop up in discussions from time to time. I don’t recall what brought it to mind for me, but I went hunting and was able to find the Errata Editions reprint (Books on Books #5) for a song.
