“different tribes”
Today, I’m thankful for the “different tribes.”
O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.
Thanks to the differences between the tribes, we have all the different languages and cultural customs, we drive on different sides of the road, we can wear suits, thobes, and lungis, and we can enjoy sausage, schnitzel, kefta, kebab, and hambagu.
Life would be so boring if we were all the same. Continue reading ““different tribes””
this beautiful house
Today, I’m thankful for this beautiful house. When I think about it, Allahu Akbar… what did I ever do to land here? Allah is truly great, and He knows best. He knows what we do not know, what we can’t even imagine. Allahu Akbar.
Debonair Sprockets
What do you get when you add some masking tape, a hand-rolled roll of Konica Pro 160, a bit of gaffer tape, and the plastic fantastic Debonair? Well…
You get Sprockets! Continue reading “Debonair Sprockets”
Light
Today, I’m grateful for light, without which, we could not see. There would be no color, photography would not be my hobby, and reading would not be quite so easy as it is, at least in the ways we understand them now. But isn’t it fun to imagine what life would be like with only infrared or some other part of the electromagnetic spectrum to light the way?
All praise and thanks be to God for giving us the gift of light and enabling us, thereby, to see. Alhamdulillah!
Play
Today, I’m grateful for play.
Play is a beautiful and wonderful thing. Its a gift from Allah that allows us to exercise our bodies and minds, sharpen our skills and develop new ones, relax, even compete. When we play, at our best, we get into states of flow and, indeed, we thrive. Don’t believe me? Check out some Ted videos, maybe, or some psychologists. Continue reading “Play”
Recycling
Today, I’m grateful for recycling, for our recognition that Allah’s creation (here on Earth, anyway) is finite and worth reusing, for the understanding that old things can be given new life. Continue reading “Recycling”
