Frame 0

I probably could’ve looked this up somewhere on the internets, and I did, in the end, but I was curious how the FG handled frames 00 and 0.

The LC-A meters and exposes them exactly as it does for every other frame on the roll, resulting in regularly achieving 39 or 40 exposures on a 36 exposure roll.

The FG, on the other hand, and like many of its siblings, fires of those frames at a fixed shutter speed. Continue reading “Frame 0”

Flare and Ghosts

This is just a brief report on the Nikon 50mm 1.8 E Series, and its flare and ghost characteristics.

Note also the thread and hair, left behind by the ‘lint-free’ glass-cleaning cloth. That’s what I get for trying to dry negatives with cloth… (I found a better method: more on that in a bit: stay tuned).

The little pancake style E Series 50 is really a top notch little lens, and I’m very pleased with it. I just thought someone out there might like to see what’s possible with it, flare and ghost-wise. Continue reading “Flare and Ghosts”

a brief vacation, part 1

Thanks to a groupon and a paid 4-day weekend at the end of December, Hana and I went down to the Hill Country for a couple of days.

Normally, on a trip like this, I would’ve tried to limit my gear somewhat, usually with lens selection (like I did on the trip to Marfa during the 365), or by taking only a point-and-shoot camera (as I did when I went on that business trip to Costa Rica*).
